A Morning with Kelly the Vet

No 43 recovering
Ouch! That hurt.
Today was not a good day on the Farm. We had to get a Vet to call and treat one of our young heifers who had apparently caught her eye on something sharp (we think it was from our bamboo shelter belt). Our Vet, Kelly, had to perform an operation that involved the surgical removal of the damaged eye. This was a pretty demanding situtaion and isn't something I want to witness anytime soon. It took about an hour and I had to assist in holding No 43 down while Kelly injected pain killers and performed the surgery.

Still a bit groggy
I was absolutely overwhelmed with the gentle care Kelly administered to the animal and I admire the skill she showed in relieving the pain and suffering the poor animal must have been going through. Although the drugs seemed to work quite quickly, I still managed to get thrown to the ground at one stage and we had some difficulty tying her to the railing to do the surgery. The heifer spent some hours lying down after the op, but she was up and about this afternoon. Her eye socket is stitched up and Kelly will return on Wednesday to check on progress. Stitches could come out on Friday. What a morning!
