Waipu Cove from the Farm |
Waipu Cove is about 10 minutes away from our farm and the view from my wife Lyn's family farm is spectacular in any weather. In Spring when the sky is lovely and clear, you can see for miles and if the water is calm it is hard to belive that we have Surf Carnivals at Waipu each year. This weekend the Annual Surf Carnival was held and the sea was as smooth as a mill pond for most of the day. I took these photos earlier to illustrate my story. The beach at Waipu can be very dangerous in some parts, especially if there is a rip and although the Surf Club have tried many ways of keeping a concrete ramp in use, Mother Nature will sometimes send a reminder about just who is in charge. I have seen the beach change overnight after a storm and concrete ramps have suddenly become bits of concrete embedded in the sand! I guess there is no harm in trying.

Another view of Waipu Cove in Bream Bay |
Waipu Cove is an idyllic place to live and we enjoy living here. Summer is quite a different scenario as we are inundated by hordes of Summer Holidaymakers and it becomes quite daunting to get around over the holiday period. Queing for milk or other grocery items becomes a chore and we are quite happy to revert back to the 'Good Life" once the crowds have returned home. On the positive side, our visitors bring the necessary funds to keep local small businesses going through the Winter months when it is much quieter and we are left on our own. Of course the Cove can be a special place, even in a Winter storm, but that is another story!
