Not just a Drain on Funds!

The Drain
One of our projects that has been on the "To Do List" for more years than I care to think about is drainage around our house and garden. We live on very flat land that used to be a racecourse back in the late 1890s and as a consequence our driveway has always been very wet and muddy after any lengthy rain period. We seemed to be forever raking leaves out of open drains or wading through wet and muddy areas to get to the potting bench or glasshouse and if we were loading the car for a trip to town, it always resulted in muddy footwear and soaking carpet in the car.

A stony trail
Last month we made a decision to get one of our local contractors who advertises in our publication to come and "fixit!" Jeff has just completed tidying up the area and we are delighted at the result. Even after 75mm rain recently ..NO FLOODING! Now that we have laid fine roading metal over the drive we will hopefully enjoy a much drier environment and the improvement around the house and garden area is most satisfying. So if you have a wet area ... d-r-a-i-n!

Since these photos were taken our contractor has returned and rmoved all the mini mountains of soil and we can get back to our vegtable garden area without tripping over clay piles. There is a real skill in handling a "Bobcat" and watching Jeff manouveur this machine in a tight area was beautiful to behold as they say. I will stick to computers and minor gardening forays!
